DURING PRODUCTION

A little way through the production of our music video we decided to hold a rough cut screening of our work so far; the purpose of this was to see if our music video is progressing in the right direction; it was to see if we've got the camerawork right, if our lipsyncing skills was on target; have we used the locations effectively and lastly are we meeting convention? Doing the screening at the time that we did allowed us enough time to make any drastic changes if necessary; the last thing we would have wanted was to finish our music video and realise that we had not met our audiences expectations.

We showed our music video to people in our class and they identified the parts of the video they liked and highlighted any areas for improvement. Above are images from the responses we got from our peers.

A summary of the results from the rough cut:

  • People really liked the use of locations

  • They thought we had great edits, especially the montage at the beginning and end.

  • Really liked the special effects.

  • Liked the performance. They thought it was intersting and attention grabbing.

Some of the issues with the music video was, there were a lot of gaps in the video at the time but this was due to the fact we hadn't completed filming, but once we did, we would have more than enough footage to select from.

A further issue was they did not approve of one of our locations which was Tomi at the bridge in London; they though it was too dull and what she was wearing was too 'boring' compared to the rest of the outfits in the music video. However, we couldn't just get rid of that location because it was an important part of our narrative plus it provided elements of iconography through the use of the London Eye which can be seen in the background of the shots. So we needed to keep it; but in terms of making the shots less dull we decided to go film another day when it wasn't so cloudy and hopefully this will help bring the shots more life.

Finally, while most of our footage was in sync with the music there were a few odd bits of footage that were out of sync; and these were pointed out to us. It was important to rectify this as A bad lip sync can ruin the whole effect of the music video.
